Welcome to our class page. Come and look at all the exciting and fun things we have been doing in school!

Important Information

Please bring your child's reading folder in every day.

PE- Every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Spellings- Given out on a Monday. Test on Friday.

 

 

Autumn Term

Welcome to Year 1. The children have settled in very well into their new class and are all having lots of fun.

 

We have a busy Autumn Term coming up. Let's see what we will be doing...

 

 

 

In Religion - we are learning about families; our own, our school and our Church families.

 

In English - we are reading books written by Julia Donaldson, such as The Gruffalo, Superworm, The Highway Rat and many many more! We are also going to write labels, captions and lists as well as character descriptions.

 

In Maths - we will reading, writing and ordering numbers to 100, as well as beginning to make 10 by adding 2 numbers together.

 

In Topic we are learning about "Who am I?" We are going to labwl the parts of our body and think about what they are used for. We will do still life drawing of different fruits and vegetables as well as taste them and we will also learn about homes from the past and around the world.

Spider Biscuits

We have had a very busy term learning all about different minibeasts. To celebrate the end we have all made spider biscuits. On Friday, we are going to write instructions explaining how to make them.

Celery Investigation

Celery Investigation

We have been learning about how plants grow. We discovered that the roots of the plant take the water out of the soil and into the plant. We also found out that the stem takes the water up to the flower and leaves. We decided to investigate if this was true. We will leave our celery for a few days and see what happens.

Today we went on a living things hunt! We found lots of things that are living... especially in our bug hotels!

People of the Past Day 2018

 

What a fantastic day we had last week when we had our People of the Past Day. WE had some amazing people from history visit our school. Wilbur Wright, Albert Einstein, Cleoptra, and even Neil Armstrong! Take a look at our pictures below...

Vivaldi!

This week we are learning all about Antonio Vivaldi and his concerto 'The Four Seasons'. 

We are focusing on the season Spring in Years 1 and 2, and have been listening to his Spring composition.

This morning we have listened to the music "Spring" by Vivaldi.

We closed our eyes and imagined what we could see. We then drew the pictures from our mind.

We also thought about how the music made us feel.

SPRING 1 - This terms topic is;  PEOPLE OF THE PAST!

Who was the first man on the moon?

Who was LS Lowry and what did he paint?

What was the Great Fire of London?

Who invented the computer?

 

Step inside Year 1 and find out the answers to these questions and even more... 

 

This half term is our most exciting yet... We are going to learn all about famous people from the past, what they were like and what they did to make them famous!

We may even have a chance to dress up as our favourite person from history. Who could you be...?

 

In English we are reading Traditional Tales and Fairy Stories. Looking at different chararcters and settings as well as writing our own traditional stories!

In Maths we are concentrating on tens and units. We will begin to partition numbers into tens and ones and move onto adding and subtracting these numbers. 

 

In Religion we are looking at Special People; finding out about important people in our church family as well as reading stories about Jesus.  

 

Spellings are given out every Monday to be learnt for a Spelling Test every Friday. Please practise these regularly through the week.

Reading Books are to be in school every day, and children should read every night at home. Please comment in the book so we can see how the children are getting on.

 

We are always available each morning and evening after school should you need to speak to us!

Christingle Making

Our Trip to TESCO

 

On Wednesday morning we all walked over to TESCO for our Farm to Fork trip.

We had a fantastic time. We looked at all the fruit and vegetables, went into the freezers, looked at the bakery and even held a fish! 

 

The children were also given chance to taste some cheese and bread, as we ll as some fruit.

Flowers and Insects

 

This term we will be looking at different flowers and plants in our environment. We will learn about the different parts of the flower, name a variety of wild flowers and investigate what a flower needs to grow.  We will use different materials to draw still life pictures of flowers. These will be displayed in the classroom. We will also investigate different minibeasts and insects , naming them and finding out information out about these insects. 

 

In English we will be reading stories about minibeasts and writing our own adventure stories, as well as looking at information texts on flowers and minibeasts.

 

In Religion we will be looking at the Resurrection of Jesus and the stories of his followers at this time.

 

 

Spring Term

'The Stories People Tell'

 

 

This term we are going to be learning all about stories from around the world as well as stories from hundreds of years ago. 

We will be reading all kinds of traditional stories from Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk to the 3 Little Pigs. 

 

If you have any stories at home do bring them in and we can share them together.

 

Our RE focus this half term is Lent- A time to Grow and Change with Jesus. We will be listening to stories from the Gospel about how  we can follow in the footsteps of Jesus. 

 

In Maths we are going to be looking at tens and units, learning partition a number into tens and units! Look out for our exciting pictures of what we are doing!

Story Character Day

Autumn 1 - This terms topic is;                'Who am I?'.

 

We will be learning all about ourselves, our family and our friends. We will look at how we grow and change from babies as well as looking at our bodies and feelings. In Art we will be painting portraits of our friends as well as making stick puppets in DT.

 

In English we are looking at the author  Julia Donaldson and reading some her excellent stories. We will concentrate on her book, The Gruffalo, doing lots of writing and other activities based on this book.

 

In Maths we will be working with numbers to 30; comparing, ordering,adding and subtracting them.

 

Spellings are given out every Monday to be learnt for a Spelling Test every Friday. Please practise these regularly through the week.

Reading Books are to be in school every day, and children should read every night at home. Please comment in the book so we can see how the children are getting on.

Happy Eid

This afternoon we have been learning about the Prophet Muhammad. We also made Eid Cards.

 

We wish all our Muslim friends a very Happy Eid.

 

 

 

Drumming with Mr Roscoe

 

Mr Roscoe brough his drums into school today and all of the children in Year 1 had opportunity to have a little turn at playing them. It was lots of fun!

We have been focusing on writing different instructions in our Friday Writing. We all made a ladybird biscuit and wrote instructions explaining how to make them.

This week we have been using the pastels to draw still life pictures of a selection of flowers.

Sketching in the Trees

This afternoon we have spent a lovely calm and relaxing afternoon sketching in the trees. The children enjoyed looking around them and seeing what interesting plants and flowers they could see.
