Year 5

Welcome to Year Five 2020-21!

In Year Five we hope to always 'be the best that we can be!'

We hope to be able to share with you some of the activities that we have completed in class and any news or exciting events taking place. Watch this space...

Tuesday 23rd March Day of Reflection. We wrote a Rainbow of Prayers to reflect on the one year anniversary of the first lockdown due to Coronavirus.

Year 5 have been engaged and enthused with lots of activities linked to British Science Week this week.

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

I hope you are all well and have had a good Christmas and time at home with your family.  We now have to restart our home learning again so that we can follow the government's instructions to stay at home as much as we can.

Your daily tasks will be uploaded to Seesaw instead of the class page on this website.  Please let me know by emailing me on Purple Mash or asking a grown up to leave a message at the school office if you are having trouble getting on Seesaw.

I am looking forward to hearing from you via Seesaw or Purple Mash email. I am sure you are going to keep working hard so that you continue to make super progress like the start of Year 5.

Take care everyone,

Miss Knox

Year 5 have been very enthusiastic making bread in our Design Technology project and a few parents have asked for the recipe to make them at home. I'm so glad you enjoyed them so much!

Our Year 5 Curriculum

We have some exciting topics coming up in the Autumn term in Year 5...

RE

Our first topic in RE is all about Ourselves.  We find out:

  • Each person is made in the image and likeness of God.
  • To know ourselves and to appreciate that our value and uniqueness is central to our wellbeing.

Science

We begin our Science journey in Year 5 by investigating the uses of everyday materials.

Look out for photos on this page showing all the investigations we will be carrying out!

History

We are going to love finding out about the Romans!  Our enquiry question is:

What was life like in Roman Britain?

Design Technology

This half term we will be designing, making and evaluating a bread snack for a Roman Soldier to eat during his guard duty on Hadrian's Wall.  The Great Year 5 Bake Off!

Music

Year 5 are in for a treat this year as we learn the flutes with our talented music teachers.  Look out for those flutes coming home around October half term!

PE

Year 5 are going to be working hard on their fitness this half term.

As well as our regular weekly PE lesson, there will be a weekly lesson in Dance with a dance teacher.

We start our swimming lessons on Monday 28th September.  We go swimming EVERY DAY for 4 weeks.  We also walk to and from Castle Leisure Centre so everyone will be super fit by half term!

Welcome back!  I am really looking forward to seeing all my new Year 5 children back in school on Tuesday.  Come into school at the normal KS2 entrance (at the bottom of the stairs up to Year 5 and 6) at 8:35 am and come straight upstairs with your coats, PE kits and even packed lunch boxes if you have them.  I'll be waiting upstairs to explain everything to you.

We will be doing LOTS of hand washing and there will be some changes to play times and lunchtimes but don't worry, you will still have plenty of time to catch up with your friends and enjoy your learning again.

Remember, you will need to be collected on the playground from the same place you came into school at 3:10 pm.

See you on Tuesday!

Miss Knox
