Year 2

welcomtYea2!

We’re currently doing all of our home learning on the Seesaw app. Below you’ll find some of the work we’ve completed throughout the year, in school, and some of the work we’ve completed at home.

We hope you enjoy looking at it!

Take a look at what we've been doing in class.

We’ve been practising our Read Write Inc work at home and we’re doing so well! 😎

We’ve been learning about Palm Sunday. We were tasked with creating our own Palm leaves at home, to place on our front door, so that passers by could see them. I’m sure you’ll agree that we’ve done a fantastic job!

We’ve been learning about Polish traditions at Easter time. Here’s some of the work the children produced to show what they had learnt.

As part of their home learning, Year 2 have been developing their computing skills, using an app called ChatterPix. Take a look at a great example, created by Awais.

I asked Year 2 to work together with their family members, to create a piece of artwork that represents them as a family. I love their creative ideas! They then wrote a prayer, to thank God for all the things we have to be thankful for, during these difficult times. We asked God to keep guiding us to make the right choices and to help us through. I’m so proud of the responses I received on their home learning journals. 🥰

We designed our moving vehicles when we were still in school, but we didn’t get time to make them before the school closures. Some of us made them at home and even evaluated them afterwards, too. Look at these wonderful creations. What a talented bunch we have in Year 2!

Year 2 have been designing rainbows to cheer people up as they pass their houses. They’ve done a fantastic job! 😎

As part of our A to B topic, we are designing and making moving vehicles in Design and Technology. Before designing our moving vehicles and thinking about what we wanted ours to look like, we inspected some toy cars. We discussed how the wheels move and how they are attached to the vehicles. We then used this to help us with our designs. We used the knowledge we learnt in Science to help us think about which materials we would need. Watch this space for some exciting photos of our finished products!

In Science, we've been learning about the uses of everyday materials, such as wood, plastic and metal. After finding different types of materials around school, we investigated the properties.

We had lots of fun on World Book Day. We created our favorite book characters using potatoes, we wrote a book review for our friends and we listened to exciting stories.

We've been learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. First we went hunting for shapes outside. The we described the properties of a shape and our friends had to guess which shape we were thinking of.

Children's Mental Health Week - We have been busy learning about ways to keep our mind healthy this week. We've enjoyed circle time, learnt about ways to calm our selves down, written poems and designed posters to help other children around school.

January 2020 - To begin our new science topic of 'Animals Including Humans' we discussed what different animals are called when they are babies and learnt about the changes that happen as they grow into adults.

Year 2 were very lucky to have two of our Year 6 boys deliver collective worship with us today, which they had independently planned and delivered very confidently. Year 2 really enjoyed it and it gave us lots to think about as we prepare for Christmas.

Our Prickly Hay performance was fantastic!

Hot Seating!

We're getting really confident with out maths work now!

Drawing Skills

We're becoming very skilful now in our PE lessons!

We've been learning about colours. We began by using the three primary colours and then experimented by mixing them together to make new colours. When you mix two primary colours together, it makes a secondary colour.

We've been learning all about Antarctica. We used pastels to create the icy mountains in the background and then tried really hard to add lots of detail our penguin drawings. This helped us with our descriptive writing about Antarctica.

Baptism

Collective Worship

Year 2 were very lucky today, because Mrs Robinson came to read us a story! She made it very exciting by changing her voice for different characters.

We've been learning all about instructions in Year 2. We've had a go at using instructions to tell our friends how to print, using different materials; we've been coding instructions into the iPad to control a beetbot and we've looked carefully at a set of instructions and put them into the correct order. All of this helped us to write our own super instructions.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We've been learning about healthy diets and other ways to keep our bodies healthy. Regular exercise is a great way to keep healthy.

We've been partitioning tens and ones.
